I have been a professional photographer for over 17 years. In that time, I have worked with thousands of families in homes and other environments… for a long time, I considered myself to be a ‘natural light only’ photographer.
Frankly the idea of shooting with a family, especially on film, with artificial light terrified me.
But over the years, I realized there were so many cool spaces I missed out on taking pictures in where there was little to no natural light.
Because of this, I’ve committed to understanding flash and artificial light more over the last few years. And I’m so grateful I have. It’s opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me in my photography, and there is so much more opportunity to play and have fun with my art!
This post I’ll be sharing some of my favorite ways I’ve used flash/artificial lights (tips, gear and lessons learned).
